Your company has been successful over the years and it continues to grow from strength to strength. You take a lot of credit for this but it’s a shared credit with your employees and business partner.
Recently, you’ve noticed a shift in the atmosphere with your number two. They seem unsettled and unhappy with how things are going. Why might this be the case?
They feel overworked
Your partner has done an astounding job of keeping both new and existing customers very happy. The problem is, they are having to deal with more and more clients all of the time. It’s becoming too much for one person to handle alone and they are starting to feel overwhelmed and frustrated. This was not something that you had done intentionally, but it does need to be addressed. Everyone within the company, including yourself, shouldn’t feel like they have more work than they can possibly handle.
They feel disrespected
As the owner of the company, you are the boss. However, you brought your business partner in as an equal, who shared the same level of authority. The problem is that they haven’t been allowed to assert this authority. While it has never been deliberate, you have accidentally undermined a few of their decisions. Staff may not be treating your business partner as your equal as a result.
It’s inevitable that you and your business partner will have ups and downs. What’s important is how you manage these. If you’re in the midst of a dispute, make sure you have some legal guidance on your side.
